Campaigners against High Speed 2 hope to hear from the man who could replace Boris Johnson as London Mayor when he visits Ickenham tomorrow.

Zac Goldsmith is set to meet residents at the Coach and Horses pub as part of his campaign to become Mr Johnson's successor later this year, having secured the role of Conservative candidate for the election.

Supporters of the anti-HS2 movement have been encouraged to let all Mayoral candidates know how important the issue is to them, with an opportunity tomorrow to tell Mr Goldsmith the “devastating effects HS2 will have in Hillingdon”.

A message this week from his campaign team stated that they will be at the pub from 10am – 4pm.

In an email circulated by HS2 campaigners, it was suggested that an unnamed “senior female Cabinet Minister'' would also be appearing.

Charlotte Jones, pictured below left, a leading HS2 campaigner from Ruislip, told Hillingdon is Here: “Zac coming to Ickenham is a good opportunity for him to learn about the devastating effects HS2 will have in Hillingdon.

“If he's coming to survey local residents he won't fail to notice that HS2 is an important issue here and if he wants Hillingdon votes to become the new London Mayor he will need to be prepared to step up to help us fight against it.

“People in Ickenham will want to know where he stands this Saturday and will be hoping he'll make his position clear.”

The HS2 campaigners have written to supporters to ask them contact all the Mayoral candidates to make their feelings about the £50bn rail project clear. See bottom of article for details.

Meanwhile, HS2 Ltd has announced it will hold a public meeting in Ickenham in coming weeks.

HS2 Ltd stated: “This event is an opportunity for you to find out more about the project and what it means for your local area.

“Join us to talk to our experts about engineering, construction, property, the environment and more, see maps and plans of the project near you and ask questions and explore the proposals in more detail.”

It takes place on Tuesday 8 March from 2pm to 7pm at Ickenham Village Hall, 33 Swakeleys Road.
