Printed photos to fade into memory? Future of Uxbridge Boots unclear

The future of Boots photo printing services in Uxbridge is unclear after the company announced closures last week.

Boots is keeping tight-lipped over the Uxbridge shop, despite revealing that over two thirds of its photo labs nationwide would be closing.

The pharmacy firm announced last week that 220 out of its 320 photo labs in the UK would be shutting as customers opt to use online services such as Photobox and Truprint to print their snaps.

The health and beauty specialist currently offers one-hour printing instore. It operates two shops in Uxbridge, with the one in Intu shopping centre providing a photo booth service.

Boots has yet to say which stores would be affected.

It declined to answer whether Uxbridge’s photo lab would be closing and whether this could lead to staff being made redundant when asked by Hillingdon is Here.

The company did point to a statement, however, which read: “To continue to focus on the customer demand for instant kiosks to print photos and order photo gifts, Boots UK is removing 220 photo labs from stores.

“Impacted colleagues will be offered retraining and redeployment to other roles where possible. However, some roles may be made redundant.”

Hillingdon is Here spoke to shoppers last week in Uxbridge Town Centre to get their views on the changes. Check out the video above.
