Plans for a Costa coffee in Ickenham have been given the go ahead.

Hillingdon Council approved the application for the hot drinks giant to move into Swakeleys Road on Wednesday night.

An application was lodged around two months ago to replace the old Lloyds bank at 35 Swakeleys Road. This unit has been left vacant for some while. You can see how it used to look three years ago in the Google Street View image below.

The company applied for a change of use from class A2 (Bank) to A1/A3 (shops/restaurants/cafes) - with external alterations. The image above shows a design submitted as part of the planning process.

Costa previously told Hillingdon is Here it was 'evaluating opportunities in Ickenham'.

A Hillingdon Is Here poll has shown readers were split over the application. About 49% said they were in favour and 45% were against.

Hillingdon Council said in a statement: "Hillingdon Council's North Planning Committee approved the application for a Costa Coffee in Ickenham on Wednesday 23 August.

"The application was approved by seven of the eight councillors present, with one councillor abstaining due to a non-financial interest in the agenda item.

"We will issue a conditional planning approval in the next few days."
