Missing man's body found in Harefield with cause of death unknown

A body found on Harefield farmland has been identified as a missing man from Wembley, with the cause of death yet to be determined.

Hillingdon detectives have launched an investigation after the corpse was discovered in hedgerow on Breakspear Road North on 14 October.

Leocardo Loney, aged 83, had been missing for two months.

He had dementia and was last seen at his care home in Wembley on Thursday, 3 August at about 5.35pm.

A memorial balloon with a note from the family was seen at the site where his body was found at the weekend.

The police said in a statement: "The body found on Saturday the 14 October 2017 has been identified as Leocardo Loney, aged 83. The cause of death remains unexplained.

"Mr Loney’s family are aware. Hillingdon Police enquiries are ongoing."

Previously issued CCTV footage showed Leocardo leaving the care home and since then there have been three possible sightings of him.

The first was on a Route 182 bus travelling from the Wembley area towards Brent Cross, on Tuesday, 22 August.

The second and third unconfirmed sightings were both in Hatfield on Saturday, 9 September and later on Thursday, 28 September.

His daughter, Marie Loney, made an appeal in recent weeks.

She said: "I am extremely concerned for my father's safety. He is a frail, elderly man who suffers from dementia. He is in need of 24-hour care and requires medication."

He needed medication for his dementia and may have been confused, police previously said.
