The empty shopping space in Uxbridge left vacant by BHS has been filled at last by sports and leisure store Decathlon.

The new store has now opened at intu Uxbridge and according to officials, is employing 25 people from the Uxbridge area.

The last BHS stores, including Uxbridge, closed their doors for the final time in August 2016, ending an 88-year presence on UK High Streets. The closures came after the retailer was placed into administration in March last year but failed to find a buyer.

Occupying a 18,000 sq ft store, Decathlon bosses said it will offer more than 70 sports under one roof, including running, fitness, team sports, fishing, watersports, cycling, skiing, golf and more.

Additional services include cycle and scooter workshops including repairs, textile printing, click & collect.

“We are thrilled that Decathlon is here at intu Uxbridge,” said Natasha House, Marketing Manager at intu Uxbridge. “They have a fantastic range that is sure to be popular amongst shoppers of all ages.”

Constanze Zehentmeier, Store Manager at Decathlon Uxbridge, said “Decathlon’s aim is to make sports accessible for the many.

“We do so by offering a wide range of sports and products at the best possible value - online and in store. The Team is excited to welcome the Uxbridge community to share their passion for sports with you.”

Decathlon Uxbridge will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 8pm, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays, with browsing from 10.30am.
